A&P, also known as “The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company” – Bans all firearms (and other weapons) in all stores for everybody.  This is the most comprehensive and complete “zero tolerance” weapons ban we have seen yet.  They do not even describe an exception for law enforcement.

Here is what their corporate office wrote in response to our inquiry:

A&P Policy Statement:
“POLICY ON WORKPLACE THREATS AND VIOLENCE

The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc. (“A&P”) and its family of companies (collectively “the Company”) has a zero tolerance for threats, threatening behavior, or acts of violence against employees, visitors, guests, or other individuals by anyone on Company premises.

No weapons of any type, including without limitation, hand guns and rifles, knives (unless such a knife is a regular tool on the job), crossbows, bow and arrows, air-pistols, air-rifles, darts, explosives, toxic agents or any other destructive devices designed to inflict injury or cause physical damage (e.g., brass-knuckles, nun-chaku, etc.) are allowed on company premises; this includes Company vehicles and parking areas owned or operated by the company.

Any person who makes substantial threats, exhibits threatening behavior, or engages in violent acts on Company property shall be removed from the premises as quickly as safety permits, and shall remain off Company premises pending the outcome of an investigation. Should an investigation substantiate that violations of this policy have occurred, the Company will initiate a decisive and appropriate response.”

Second Amendment Check follow-up:
“Thanks for sharing that Jennifer, but I am confused.  Is this only applicable to employees?  Or is this policy also intended to prohibit customers from carrying their firearms in your stores? (Even if it is within the law to do so.)
Please clarify.”

A&P Response to follow-up:
“Please know that our Policy prohibits anyone (employees and customers) from carrying firearms within any of our stores.”

The ONLY TIME a mass murder in progress has ever been stopped is when a law-abiding citizen with a gun is present as in these examples

A university in Virginia. A student with a grudge, an immigrant, pulled a gun and went on a shooting spree. It wasn’t Virginia Tech at all, 32 defenseless unarmed human beings were NOT slaughtered. It was the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, not far from Virginia Tech. Two students immediately ran to their cars. Each had a handgun locked in the vehicle and stopped the mass murder. Had they been able to carry their guns more would have lived

At Pearl High School in Pearl, Mississippi. When, Assistant Principal Joel Myrick. Myrick heard the gun shots. He couldn’t have a handgun in the school. But he did keep one locked in his vehicle in the parking lot. He ran outside, retrieved his gun and stopped the mass murderer before more innocents were slaughtered. Had he been able to carry his gun fewer children would have died.

In Edinboro, Pennsylvania. At a school graduation dance with 240 students there. Restaurant owner James Strand, armed with a shot gun, stopped a rampaging shooter and held him for police. There would be no further victims that day, thanks to armed resistance.

At Trolley Square Shopping Mall, in Salt Lake City, Kenneth Hammond, heard the shots. The killer found himself under fire much sooner than he anticipated Hammond was able to pin down the shooter until police finally arrived and one of them shot the man to death. There would be no further victims that day, thanks to armed resistance

Jeanne Assam, a private citizen with a Colorado concealed carry license was at church, when a psycho brought an rifle, two handguns and 1,000 rounds of ammunition to her church. Having already killed four people he was intent on killing all 1,000 remaining church members. Legally armed Jeanne Assam, stopped him saving a thousand intended victims from being slaughtered.

From 1966 to 1990 the 24 years before Clinton enacted the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 there were 99 people killed in mass murders.

In the 24 years from 1990 to 2014 since Clinton enacted the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 there have been 223 people killed in mass murders.

Is it remotely possible that providing unarmed defenseless prey for psycho paths to slaughter at will with no risk to themselves might encourage psycho paths to commit mass murder? Is it possible that violent predatory criminals like all predators prefer defenseless prey and fear those who may be able to defend themselves and do them harm?

It’s a sad thing when people can’t think past the propaganda of their government. Study your history people. Oh that’s right, they don’t teach that part anymore. That’s the first step in controlling the masses, keep them ignorant which sadly seems to be working. I pray to God all you sheep sleep soundly with your false sense of security until the wolf comes for you.

  3. I am currently in the market for my first real Firearm. I have been looking for a site that would tell me what stores I will no longer be shopping or eating at. Sorry waffle house your food was delicious though. The Job wasn’t bad either except when the Police all piled in their at one time. That was the most uncomfortable 45 min- 1hour that I have ever had cooking for someone.

    • I’m a 30-year+ military veteran, father of four (two step children), faithfully married for 27 years, owner of many firearms and a staunch supporter of the 2nd amendment.

Thanks for calling me a “nut job”.

Just for the record, *I* have never “SWAT’ed” a someone in legal possession of a fire arm.

…and remember that, when a government starts taking away your rights, the right to self defence is usually the first.

    • HOW DO YOU GET THAT THEY ARE CARING ABOUT YOUR WELL BEING. THE CRIMINALS ARE ALWAYS GOING TO HAVE WEAPONS OF SOME KIND. EVERY EVENT WHERE MASS KILLINGS HAVE TAKEN PLACE INVOLVING GUNS, WERE ALL AT “GUN FREE ZONES”, MALL, SCHOOL, MOVIE THEATER. I WOULD MUCH RATHER HAVE LEGAL CARRYING CITIZENS WALKING AROUND TO MAYBE PROTECT ME FROM A CRAZED PERSON WITH A GUN THAN TAKE A CHANCE ON MISSING ONE OF THEIR BULLETS. BUT BEYOND THAT YOU ARE TAKING AWAY MY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO PROTECT MYSELF. NO MATTER I HAVE A CONCEAL CARRY AND MY GUN GOES WHERE EVER I GO. YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHO IS CARRYING AND WHO IS NOT. I WILL PROTECT MYSELF, FAMILY AND OTHER HUMANS IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.THAT IS WHAT DECENT HUMAN BEINGS DO, THEY TRY TO PROTECT EACH OTHER. THIS IS JUST ONE MORE RIGHT YOU ARE ALLOWING THE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE AWAY FROM US. READ YOUR HISTORY, THIS IS A VERY BAD IDEA.

  14. Please keep any and all gun rules and regulations that support responsible gun ownership, including not supplying any guns or ammunition. Support legislators that understand not everyone can be responsible and we must have stronger laws for licensing and longer waiting periods for background checks to be completed properly.

  16. I understand and agree with your point, but keep in mind, this is a grocery store. If you see someone with a gun in a supermarket, they probably aren’t just exercising their rights.

    Reply

    • Why do you think they want to take your guns away? Read the details. Guns aren’t allowed in their store. That doesn’t mean they are trying to take your guns away. Don’t put words in other people’s mouths
