Toys R Us / Babies R Us – Bans guns.

No Toys and Babies R Us

Here is their response to our inquiry.  We asked them if it was true that they banned guns in all of their stores:

“Thank you for contacting the “R” Us Family.

Unfortunately all ToysRus stores have this policy regarding firearms. If you are very concerned regarding the policy and the depth of it, I would speak with a store manager of a store near you. I do apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused you.

Thank you, once again, for contacting the “R” Us Family.”

Don’t families have a right to protect themselves?

Here’s story about a killing of a store manager in his office at a Toys R Us.

  1. Amazing how so many people have a difference of opinion until it happens to them. I was in a House of Worship when someone came in with a gun and a knife. You’re supposed to feel safe in these gun free zones. Did the Pastor make it a gun free zone? No. We had the option to have a gun in the building seeing how my husband is the Pastor. We just thought we need a concealed permit. We we’re told by police that since the property was in our name we could legally have a gun there. That was Florida. ( W we’re stilling awaiting trial since the guys been declared incompetent). We’re now in Texas legally licensed to carry and then I see this morning that I cannot carry legally in their store which is now a gun free zone. I told my daughter let’s go and spent my money elsewhere. I never want to be in the situation I was in before and feel helpless. Thank God my husband and son we’re able to subdue the guy. But…..my husband and son can’t always be there. What happens then?

  2. Danielle, again, all schools are drug free, gun free, bully free zones! Yeah right! Irresponsible parents, criminals, and students with mental defects – none should have access. Fix those laws and address those problems and stop infringing of law abiding citizens (yes, citizens, not ILLEGALS).

  3. I was at a Toys-R-Us store today and noticed the sign. What stood out to me is the nature of the sign – at least for SC it doesn’t meet the legal requirements to count as being posted. Makes me wonder just how serious the store is about it.

  6. I’ve worked for toy r us and this is my favorite part of the job “no guns are allowed in the store”.
“Here watch this training video on what to do if someone decides to shoot up the store”. I personally don’t ask anyone who carries to take their firearm out to their vehicle.

  7. Dear toys-r-us management,
Thank you for giving me and my 3 year old son a gun free place to shop for toys. Not sure why anyone would need a gun in a toy store but I guess when your afraid of everything and everyone you need to take your gun everywhere.

Please continue to keep this store safe from lunatics.

    • Remember u being for the banning of guns in a public place when some nut job comes in with a gun and starts shooting and there’s no one that’s good with a gun to save ur ass……

    • Matt, you delusional. This policy will not keep you safe from “lunatics”. Lunatics will not care nor obey this policy. Most firearm massacres happen in gun free zones. Why do you think lunatics attack such places? Well, because they know there will be little opposition. I work in the law enforcement field. Rarely do I go anywhere without a firearm. I carry to protect myself and my family. If you think you live in a safe world you are greatly mistaken. This policy has ensured that me and my family will never do business with Toys r Us again.

  8. If law abiding citizens are allowed to carry guns, all shoppers should feel safer. If someone with ill intent enters your store, a law abiding citizen with a gun just may save your life.

    • How would you tell the difference? When I see someone with a gun, I do not think “law abiding citizen.” I think “That person is either a criminal, a gun nut or both, and definitely dangerous, whether it’s because of ill intent or idiocy.”

      • Deidre, your irrational fear doesn’t trump my right to protect me and my children or family. Gun free zones are targets for the real boogy men in this world. If you cant see a person protecting their own as a law abiding citizen. It sounds like you could use some therapy. Case in point, I have a niece that is terrified at the sight of a vacuum, because it is going to attack her and hurt her.if she can be educated about inanimate objects and overcome her fears I have all the confidence in the world you can to.

      • If I saw a person respectfully carrying, the last thing I am thinking is that they are a nut. Little do you realize that more people are carrying then you realize. Open carriers are usually legal permit holders, criminals hide their guns.

      • A convicted felon first of all won’t have a gun visible…..second of all remember what u said when a responsible gun owner carrying a gun saves the lives of people from a bad guy with a gun….come on people sometimes I wonder where ur head is cause after seeing what this world is coming to more good people need guns….

      • The law abiding citizens will not be the one shooting the place up. The criminal will be. That’s how you tell the difference. This no gun policy does not make customers safer. It actually does the opposite. A criminal is much more likely to commit a crime in a business that does not allow guns than one that does. It’s obvious why. He wants to be the only person with a gun.

  9. Laughable. Only in America would people find it a bad thing that guns are banned in a store aimed at children. What planet do you people live on? I’m glad I live in a country where guns are not a part of life and no-one lives in fear of guns getting into the wrong hands. The civilized world views America as a laughing stock for its love of lethal weapons.

  11. Carrie, I hope that you feel much safer shopping at Toys-R-Us knowing that LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS cannot carry concealed weapons in their stores. Now all you have to worry about are the CRIMINALS who don’t pay attention to the weapons bans other than to smile and think “No guns allowed. That means nobody in the store can do a thing to stop me while I go on a shooting rampage”.

  13. I noticed this on my most recent visit to toys r us, and proceeded to put my gun in my car, go in and request a refund for all of the gift cards my kids got, then I went and spent the money elsewhere. Never again will I spend a dime at toys r us.

  14. @Carrie you are just the consumer these stores deserve. You forget, criminals will ALWAYS have guns and it matters not if it’s a toy store, mall, theater or a house of worship. People such as yourself are the reason I carry a gun. I will be safe and you, well, I wouldn’t count on it. Until this country gets a hold on reality and does something of substance to prevent criminals and the mentally ill from getting firearms you will never be safe in a gun free atmosphere. But please don’t have the slightest worry when you shop at ToysRUs no person will mal intent would ever dream of harming anyone in a gun free zone.

****I appreciate the information here, I never support merchants who declare themselves to be “gun free”, when I enter a business I have a reasonable expectation of safety and when they declare themselves to be off limits to those who have the ability to protect us, I declare them off limits too.

      • Lol. You can’t just read the abstract. You need to read the entire paper; this is why research articles have discussion sections. Seems to me this is an investigation of gang violence. Yes, you’re right; people hanging out in bad areas looking for a fight are more likely to get shot whether or not they have a firearm. Also given high likelihood of error in reporting of these types of situations (high distrust/hatred for police and “snitches get stitches”) it makes me wonder if they accurately were able to decider victim from agressor. I’m still carrying.

  15. Lets see…up until the PC left decided the constitution didn’t fit in with their little Bubble-World…I don’t really remember any problems with shoot ups in toys r us or any other store by a anyone other than the insane or criminal Now, if you feel it’s safer being in a store, or anywhere else in this nut driven country without protection…so be it! As for me, this PC crap will hurt or kill more people….REMEMBER….. CRIMINALS WILL LOVE TOYS R US or any other place where they are in 100% control. Will not frequent a place that is now a sitting duck for the ” insane and evil”! My kids and grandkids are way more precious than a cheap toy, or a cup of overpriced coffee!

  16. The message I just sent to Toys R Us:
I want to thank you for not allowing fire arms in your stores. It seems like a no brainer to me that fire arms not be allowed in a store with tons of babies, kids and pregnant mothers. Thank you for putting the safety of your customers before the almighty dollar. You have my support and I will be shopping with you!

    • “It seems like a no brainer to me that fire arms not be allowed in a store with tons of babies, kids and pregnant mothers.”

Why, aren’t “tons” of babies, kids and pregnant mothers worth protecting, Carrie? We carry a firearm precisely because our families are worth protecting.

You may want to re-examine your theory. The store has done nothing to make those future victims any safer. It has no way to protect anyone from a violent attack, and their policy will not deter anyone from committing such an act. Your naive belief that some worthless policy provides safety is foolish and dangerous. Shop there at your own risk and if a bad guy shows up, be sure to call a guy with a gun to save you.

    • Carrie, the link above is to the story of a store manager who was shot in the head by someone at a Toys R Us store and had his brains blown out. It was a no brainer for him too.

    • Carrie, you have a right to be a victim. People who are allowed to legally carry handguns are not the people whom you need to be afraid of. One of them might just save your life one day. What do you do when a criminal with a gun attacks you? You call 911 and pray that someone with a gun gets there in time. You logic about being in a gun free zone is just plain stupid. Do criminals obey laws?

    • Hi Carrie,
Today I entered a Babies ‘r Us in Texas. I was carrying a legal licensed concealed handgun. But as I stepped through the first set of doors, my eye caught their “no gun” sign. It did not meet the specifications for a legal “Do Not Carry” sign prescribed by the state of Texas. I left and put my gun in the trunk because I didn’t have the info on me that described the size of lettering needed. I re-entered and was standing in the store for less than 20 seconds just 15 feet from the entry/exit looking up the information on my phone when a man who was stealing merchandise raced out the front door. I would NOT have pulled my gun. He was stealing a baby toy and was being chased by a clerk. But what if he had turned back and began to assault her or pulled a weapon (knife or gun)? Or what if he chooses to hit another Babies ‘r Us because he believes the sign is legal and no one will be carrying a concealed weapon and decides to accelerate his theft by robbing the clerks or people in the store or outside the store? My handgun instructor called those signs, “Come rob me signs.” I think he is right.

My husband and I are alive because we carry concealed and were attacked in our front yard by a stranger on PCP. My husband was badly beaten before we were able to stop at the attacker with a concealed licensed handgun. This is my front yard – a place I never anticipated an attack. A mall parking lot and store are a much more likely place for me, a 5′ 3 1/2″, 105 lb. woman to be attacked. Without a weapon, no matter where I am, I have little chance of defense (esp. as I am chronically ill). I left Babies ‘R Us after contacting their manager on duty, customer service, and requesting a call from the CEO’s office. I will not buy from them.

Concealed handgun owners are background checked through the FBI and state offices, trained in a course to receive a license, tested on laws, and must shoot an acceptable score at a target range. We also pay for the class and then for license renewal. We are not the people you need worry about. We are the “good guys.” Not one person I know who carries concealed is going to go cowboy and pull a weapon on a shoplifter. We are trained to protect our lives and the lives of others around us.

The only people shopping in Babies ‘r Us with a gun right now are people who are not licensed and carrying illegally. They call them criminals. And that’s who this policy is endorsing.

      Be safe.
